Separate visual effect from construction
Butt-joint systems reduce intermediate framing to create more continuous views. The term frameless does not eliminate perimeter support or retention requirements. MINGAN’s public post illustrates the effect through glazed doors and fixed glazing at Hong Kong Baptist Hospital, 2/F.
Review glass joints and door interfaces
Review glass joints, head and base details, wall interfaces and door-frame connections together. Joint materials, form and dimensions must follow the selected system. A decorative frameless glazing detail or a reference photograph is not a substitute for the documented fire-rated construction.
Translate visual intent into reviewable drawings
Provide overall partition dimensions, pane layout, door locations and surrounding construction early. Review required fire performance, individual and overall dimensions, joints and restraint. Keep approved drawings and installation instructions aligned, and review any proposed site changes to pane layout or joints.
Project review checklist
- Provide the full elevation, pane layout and door interfaces.
- Confirm evidence for joints, perimeter framing and retention.
- Use reference photographs for appearance and system drawings for installation.
